Armed Forces
This is an area that I have great difficulty with, I would like there to be no need for such a force but the reality is that we do need to protect ourselves. The so called "peace dividend" due to the ending of the Soviet Union has failed to materialise, in fact we really need to re-arm and re-equip our Army, Air force and Navy.
It is not just people in uniform that we need ! we need to invest in ALL the equipment that they need in order to do the job properly, we need ships, planes, military vehicles and infrastructure in a quantity to fulfil the needs of the commitments. In my opinion we do not have what we need by about 75%.
We must not just buy in American equipment, we must maintain our own truly independent fighting and defence force including any nuclear weapons needed, I would not like to see extra nuclear weapons but if we must have them we must control them without the need to ask anyone else's permission in order to fire them (such as is the system we currently have)
